Andy Pankratz is the Senior Director of Power Delivery Emergency Preparedness at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). In this role, Andy oversees all plans and processes related to emergency response, event mitigation and recovery. These processes apply to hurricane and other severe storm conditions, grid capacity shortfall and emergency events, and cyber and physical threats to the FPL and NextEra systems. Andy is also responsible for corporate business continuity plans across the NextEra Energy enterprise.
Upon Andy’s graduation in December of 1999 from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Andy joined FPL as a Protection and Control Engineer in the Dade Area. Over his 22+ year career, Andy has held various positions of increased responsibility such as Protection and Control Engineer for the Dade and Broward Areas, Reliability Leader for the Broward Area, Transmission Scheduler/System Operator, System Operations Manager-Load Dispatch, System Operations Manager-Nextera Energy Resources, Senior Manager-System Operations,Transmission & Substation Area Manager for Miami-Dade County and Director of the Distribution Control Center & Smart Grid Operations.
Andy maintains a NERC Reliability Operator certification and is a Six-Sigma Green Belt. He has served as the vice-chair of the NERC Project 2014-03 and 2009-02 Standard Drafting Teams. He also previously represented FPL on the FRCC Operating Reliability Subcommittee, Florida – Southern Coordinating Group and various other FRCC Task Forces. Andy has also been the subject matter expert for multiple TOP/BA audits and control center certifications.
